Sharing music from the heart.
Everyone is invited to the sessions with Dubbo Acoustic Music.
If you have songs to share, want an audience, want to hear local musicians, want to play with other musicians, want to listen, enjoy good company or just love real music, this is the place for you.
What do we do? - We run monthly sessions, Second Sunday of each month, usually at a pub or other easy entry, neutral territory.
What’s a session? - In our standard session, musos sit in a circle, someone does a song, then the person beside them does a song, and on it goes around the circle. Everybody is welcome to join in with voice or instrument. Occasionally someone might request that we don’t join in, if for example, they want to try a new arrangement or demo a complex piece of music.
Why not do open mic nights or concerts? - The sessions are not concerts because for us the participation of other musicians is very important.
Our sessions offer a unique musical environment. Experienced musicians can perform and experiment with freedom and get the benefit of other people’s ideas for their songs. Less experienced musicians get to perform in a welcoming and supportive space where often a more experienced musician will provide just the right touches to lift their music to a new level. Often in the later stages of the session someone will do a couple of songs in a row, but everyone still joins in.
What sort of music do we do? - We welcome all kinds of music but have put “acoustic” in our name because we want performers to be able to play live anywhere. Playing acoustically also means that everyone can participate.
Can anyone come along? - Yes. We welcome more musicians and more audience.
