About this event

The Dubbo Violence Prevention Collective (DVPC) will be hosting the second annual Reclaim the Night Event – ‘Safety. Empower. Unite. Every Step for Every Victim’ on Friday 27th November from 6-830pm at the Victoria Park Rotunda. The event will begin with a relay/walking activity to recognise the 3320 reports of domestic abuse to police in the Dubbo LGA over the past year; additionally, the 157 reported sexual assaults. Following our walk, we have some welcome formalities, dance from Dinawan’s Connection, ORISCON & Nova Performing Arts, then some incredible guest presenters (Mark Meredith & Aunty Marlene Lauw). The Rotary Clubs of Dubbo are providing a free BBQ, local Clubs are providing free soft drinks, water & alternative food options while information & support will be shared at stalls from some incredible local services working in the violence response & prevention space.

Reclaim the Night is an international campaign that the DVPC are participating in during the UN’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25 Nov-10th Dec). Reclaim the Night is a call to action, an initiative to put the spotlight on safety & respectful relationships in our community. It’s also an opportunity to walk alongside those who have experienced violence, showing resistance, unity & strength. We demand change & need to work towards a future without violence.
