Join us for our next film for the 2026 Season of Smokescreen at the WPCC Saturday, 1st August. This year’s theme is 'Breaking the Reel'. The selected films celebrate the transformative power of actors and directors who defy expectations, break free from typecasting, and reinvent themselves in groundbreaking ways.
This year’s Smokescreen will feature connected pairings of films, which highlight a specific transformative aspect of ‘Breaking the Reel’. This week’s film focuses on an example of 'Hero to Villian'; where actors or actresses go from being known as ‘good guys’ to ‘bad guys’. This week’s film is The Boston Strangler (1968), which starred the unlikely villain Tony Curtis who had made a name for himself as the romantic lead and surprised audiences with this dramatic performance as a disturbed serial killer.
Warning: this film contains scenes of a graphic and psychologically intense nature.
Run time: 1 hr 52 mins
Classification: R
